Saltwater Fish Care

We here at saltwater fish care hope to help you with some of the questions you may have on different saltwater fish. We are by no means the guru god of fish care but we do have tanks of our own and we have read a lot, also tried a lot of different things with them. Anyone that says there is only one way to have a tank has never had a saltwater tank. I myself have three different ones and everyone of them grows differently keeps the salinity differently and the stuff inside of each one is happy with different things. The number one thing I can say to someone that has never had a saltwater tank is to be sure and read everything they can from the different kinds of tanks to what is going in the tank and also what will help you keep the tank clean.

The first thing you need to consider is where are you wanting to place the tank. Is it going to be by a window or under any vents? This would need be addressed as far as the temperature goes. It could also be a concern as for as algae growth. Then what would be the right size tank for that area. What kind of fish or corals that you would like to have and if they will get along in that size tank and with each other.

Some fish need a lot more room to swim in than others and some will need rock work to hide in. Also for the corals you will need to consider the type of lights for the tank. Some will only take regular light you get when you buy the tank others will take something like T-5’s or metal halide lights. But all this will only come after you know what you want and what you can care for. Then there is the flow in the tank to take into consideration with all of the above.

One thing is for sure you never know what you are going to get when you put live rock in a tank you may find cool little gifts like new shrimp or urchins or what ever swimming in your tank. I have found some cool thing and somethings I wished I hadn’t found. So like with life you never know what you are going to get. When you think you have it all figured out then you need to read even more. This hobby has come a long way from the little tank you pick up and just dump the fish in and hoped it lived. Now with the right preparation you can have your own little part of the ocean that you can enjoy for years.
